Bok Tower Gardens, Florida

This could be a fairytale. Music, poetry, flowers, and birds surrounding a pink tower fit for Rapunzel herself. Bok Tower Gardens [1151 Tower Blvd, Lake Wales, FL 33853] is a magical place to explore.

This 250 acre wonderland was designed by none other than Fredrick Law Olmsted. Gardens filled with camellias, azaleas, roses, and flowers unknown, peak bloom is in the spring from February through the end of March.

Specified plantings include an endangered plant garden

and meat eating plants.

There are more primitive hiking trails throughout the park, hop on the Pine Ridge Nature Trail and the Preserve Trail to get your mileage and explore natural Florida flora. The park is a bird sanctuary, a designated site along the Great Florida Birding Trail where you’ll find anything from wild turkey, to sandhill cranes, and a cacophony of song birds. Undoubtedly, the centerpiece of the whole garden is the Singing Tower.

This iconic pink monolith, in art deco and gothic revival style, stands 205’ tall and is home to a carillon with 60 bells. It was completed in 1929 and dedicated by President Calvin Coolidge. The tower sings at 1 and 3PM, with short tunes played on the hour and half hour.

Don’t be late. Unfortunately the tower is not open to the public, but it’s just so lovely that you won’t mind.

Sit by the reflection pool and marvel at the koi.

Built on top of one of the highest points in Florida 295’ Iron Mountain – you actually get a natural view!
