In just a few weeks almost all of the snow is melted in the Capital Region and it looks as though spring is finally here. Two and a half short weeks ago I was hiking in freezing temperatures and a snowstorm!
I enjoyed this lovely time at Featherstonhaugh State Forest in Duanesburg regardless of the weather.
[Directions from park brochure: NYS Thruway to Exit 25. Take I-890 West to Campbell Rd (Exit 2a). From Campbell Rd turn right on Putnam Rd, and go 1.7 miles to Rte 159 (Mariaville Rd). Turn right on Rte 159 and go approximately 4.5 miles to the intersection of Rte 159 and Lake Road. Turn left on to Lake Road proceed 4 miles to the entrance of the County Forest parking area.]
Once the trail took us away from the road the forest felt so serene, no others were on the trails on our snowy day.
A solid creek ran along the trail for some time, flowing strong.
This park allows hunting (during certain times), snowmobiling, and fishing in the lake. If you’re in the area this is a quiet place to commune with nature.
