Located right in the city of Austin, but the capital couldn’t feel further away while you walk the trails of Wild Basin Wilderness Preserve.
There are 2.5 miles to hike in the Texas Hill Country habitat. A variety of paths are maintained so choosing to make a smaller loop is possible. While the park is meticulously marked, it is a good idea to snap a picture at the trailhead or take a map to avoid getting lost.
Wild Basin is home to the Golden-cheeked warbler, an endangered species to keep an eye out for.
Cross Bee Creek and make your way to the little waterfall, which becomes even more attractive after a good rainfall.
Although the vista isn’t the best possible shot for a picture, it is important to remain on the trail in this area due to the sensitive habitat.
Jumping from rock to rock over a creek, the trail provides enough adventure on its own.
Enjoy the rolling elevation changes, sometimes stairs are even implemented.
Many benches are scattered around the park, sitting at the scenic overlook is a great place to reflect.
The preserve is free to enjoy for all.
