Cathedral of Junk in Austin, Texas

As a tourist traveling through Austin, Texas you would never pass the Cathedral of Junk, and even if you did drive down its suburban block, you wouldn’t notice it from the street. It’s one of those hidden gems that makes the city so delightfully weird, and it’s a spot you don’t want to miss.

Vince Hannemann is the yardist who started building in 1989, this quirky creation is ever evolving and contains over 60 tons of junk. I swear it’s bigger on the inside. Wind your way through the cavernous passageways and up multiple levels. Take a seat on the throne and a picture for your instagram. You could spend fifteen minutes or a few hours exploring all of the odds and ends crammed in to this engineer tested, structurally sound formation.

One man’s trash is another man’s treasure.
