Not a top attraction for visitors to Austin, making it a haven for those seeking a quieter artistic experience, Umlauf Sculpture Garden is a small and memorable testament to one man’s sculpture career.
Over 50 works by Charles Umlauf are displayed within the 4 acre garden, you don’t need more than an hour to admire every piece.
He uses a method called Lost Wax casting and materials such as exotic wood and terra cotta.
Many of the sculptures are human in subject, expressionism in style, with a distinctive haunting appearance.
The Refugees were created in 1945.
Others works are detailed neoclassical in style.
The Kiss is a passionate piece from 1970.
A number of whimsical animals are scattered around the grounds, along with a few abstract works.
Be sure to check the museum calendar to find great events such as free yoga days and UMLAUF After Dark. The garden is located adjacent to Zilker Park.
