Wildwood Park for the Arts is made up of rambling woodland trails and speckled with sculptures hidden away on a back road in Little Rock, Arkansas.
Combining nature and statue seamlessly, there are miles of trails and each takes on its own persona. The centerpiece is surely Swan Lake, with its namesake creature proudly parading about.
Take to the gazebo overlooking the water and observe the wildlife.
Delve into one of the specialized trails, some are paved, others more rugged. The wildflower trail was ablaze in color during the height of spring, butterflies loved the season.
Vibrant blooms were cropping up all over the park.
The self-proclaimed ‘nature trail’ had some very interesting works of art, one of which was named bone of contention using an actual part of a skeleton.
Close to the parking lot, yet easily missed because it is on the opposite side from the lake is the Japanese Garden.
Here there is an emphasis on the color red.
The use of natural elements such as wood and stone enhance the flora.
Hopping along the stepping stone path and sitting in the Dodi Tea House is very zen, especially with the sound of running water coming from the grotto. If you walk around the entire park there are many miles to cover. You’ll find multiple free little libraries tucked away, I couldn’t imagine a better place to find a shady spot and read.
Good to know:
+The preserve is entirely free to enter and park
+It does hold specific hours – opening at various times daily, but always closing at 5PM
