Guide to Little Rock, Arkansas

Little Rock is the capital and most populous city of the Natural State, Arkansas. Along the banks of the Arkansas River, is where the city found its name. A noticeable rock outcropping was dubbed La Petite Roche by a French explorer, in English, Little Rock.

Where to eat

+Cheese Dip is a local delicacy that you must eat in Arkansas, get a phenomenal rendition at Dizzy’s Gypsy Bistro.

+Fried Catfish is a southern staple. A delicious place to eat it is at the Flying Fish Restaurant, where the décor is top notch.

+Possum Pie is as amazing as it sounds, but it is not savory like you might imagine, and entirely vegetarian. Available at Honey Pies.

+Fried Pie is a popular dessert in the region and the best place to try it near by is The Original Fried Pie Shop in Conway.

Local Parks

+Old Mill Park is a must for fans of Gone with the Wind, but even if you haven’t seen the classic movie this is a beautiful place to take a stroll.

+Pinnacle Mountain State Park is the perfect spot to take a day hike for some extraordinary views.

+Wildwood Park for the Arts has numerous trails adorned with sculptures.

+Big Dam Bridge is a place to walk or jog with the locals and see riverside wildlife.

History and art

+Little Rock Central High School National Historic Site was where the Little Rock Nine, a group of black students, would integrate in a white school for the first time in America. If you do one thing in the city, this free tour inside the still working high school is extremely insightful into this iconic moment in history.

+Arkansas State Capitol offers a pamphlet self-guided tour inside the building and there are many historic sculptures and memorials outside.

+ William J. Clinton – Presidential Library and Museum covers the life of Bill Clinton who was governor of Arkansas residing in Little Rock before he became the 42nd President of the United States.

+Arkansas Arts Center is a world class museum displaying fine arts.

Downtown

+The Old State House Museum was the original state capitol of Arkansas and now covers the history of the state, free of charge.

+Visit the Little Rock on the Arkansas River Trail. The path is 21.2 miles long, but the section in downtown is filled with excitement, including the rock that gave the capital its name.

+H.U. Lee International Gate & Garden is a tiny oasis in the heart of Little Rock with an exquisite South Korean gate and garden.

Day Trips

+Soak up the natural wonder and therapeutic waters of Hot Springs National Park.

+Take a hike at Lake Catherine State Park or Le Petit Jean State Park

+Stop by the town of Toad Suck
