Hike Jemison Park in Birmingham, Alabama

Walk beside the shaded stream protected from the heat beneath the trees and feel as if you are part of the Magic City community.

Jemison Park is a different side to Birmingham and developers were not harsh towards keeping such a lovely area wild.

Under the shadow of the hills and huge houses of the Mountain Brook neighborhood, trails by the creek meander as one.

Integrated with the city sidewalk system, parts of the park are paved, others are dirt, and they vacillate between feelings of city and nature.

Don’t miss taking a closer look at the Mill House, but do respect privacy as this is an active domicile.

Many creatures make their home here, so keep your eyes peeled for eastern blue birds, heron, hawks, owls, and other sorts of creatures.

Wildflowers are bountiful and grow thick in the spring time.

One part of the trail even uses the dam as its path, a fun balancing act.

This is a linear park and there are up to 2.5 miles of trails stretch from Watkins Road to Beechwood Road, a favorite place for local runners and families to stroll.
