Barbeque. Southern cuisine. Comfort food. Pure soul. You cannot miss eating at Saw’s Soul Kitchen while visiting Birmingham, Alabama.
I was so excited to eat here and man, did this place deliver. After meticulously looking at the menu and the yelp reviews I realized they didn’t match up entirely. I was nervous because there are a lot of Saw’s locations I wasn’t sure if there were any mix ups. The online menu may not be totally up to date, or some items may be seasonal, but everything I waned was available.
The interior is cozy with some funky decor, a lot of people take their food to go and bring it to the nearby patio at Avondale Brewing Company.
Trying white barbecue sauce is the number one food experience to have in Alabama! Of course you want some impeccable food to go under that sauce, so get the colonel.
Sweet tea fried chicken topped with southern’s favorite cheese, pimento, and drizzled with WHITE BBQ SAUCE. It was outrageously delicious, an unforgettable sandwich that was so juicy and tender with all the right flavors. Truly as good as it looks. Jeff went for their specialty, pork and greens.
The pulled pork was some of the highest quality he has ever sampled, the greens and grits perfection. The crispy onions on the top were the icing on the cake. All of this filling food would have been sufficient, but we wanted the apps, as many as we could eat! FRIED CORN was in season, since I’d never heard of it I had to try.
It was juicy crunchy good. Having been to the south on so many occasions, it was time to rectify the fact that I’d never had fried okra before. It was righteous, full bodied, with great breading. Last, but not least, and absolutely unnecessary was the delicious potato stuffed with onions, cheese, and bacon.
A whole meal in and of itself. It is safe to say if you eat at Saw’s you won’t go home hungry because you’ll want to order one of everything on the menu!
It was! The reason to pack your bags and go to Birmingham.
Everything looks amazing !
