Located in downtown in a gorgeous marble building from the 1930s that used to be Nashville’s main post office is the Frist Art Museum.
It is the premiere space to experience the arts in the city. Admission is paid, but free for college students with school ID Thursdays & Fridays from 5 to 9, and always free for kids under 18. The museum boasts works from local artists as well international. Through June 24th, there is a great exhibit of soundsuits by Nick Cave.
His art is always eclectic and bursting with life. When I visited last spring there were amazing kinetic sculptures.
Suits for pigeons.
And some art that looks like its worth a pretty penny.
Be sure to check out the sculpture outside by Jaume Plaensa, I have seen his recognizable work all over the world and always impressed by it.
If you decide to park in the Frist lot it is paid, but if you validate inside you get a discounted.
