Before we even walked in there was a hawk perched high above, watching us as we watched it.
A sign of good things to come, and Shelby Bottoms Greenway would not disappoint.
Parking is free and easy, head under the bridge and into the park.
A chorus of frogs greeted us as we entered the park, singing so loud, but were nowhere to be seen. Just listening to this springtime symphony was a true treat. One of the great things about this place is its paved, so it makes for a simple walk with easier wildlife viewing, and friendlier for cyclists. The trail is over 8 miles looping, with portions along the Cumberland River, hardwood forests, and wetlands.
During my visit there were numerous indigo buntings, always a wonder to see.
An elegant white and black dragonfly sat just long enough for me to snap a picture.
Beautiful flowers beckoned birds and insects of all kinds.
Bunnies hopped on and off the trail.
There are options for hikers to head off the pavement and further into the woods for deeper exploration.
