Southern food is heavy, biscuits, fried green tomatoes, pimento cheese – and Nashville has some of the best to offer. You may be feeling full from eating all over town, but in this city – you’ll have to save room for dessert. Five Daughters Bakery has some of the best donuts on earth. There are three locations in Nashville, and they have even expanded out to Georgia and Florida, but I loved the location that I visited in East Nashville. Street parking was a cinch and the exterior was so chic.
I promise you, this is no instagram gimmick. The place is picture perfect, but the product delivers too. You have to try the famous hundred layered donut – a hybrid of the croissant and donut.
These are big donuts, artisanal, and unique – so I think that they are worth the price tag. I tried the passion fruit cacao and chocolate sea salt.
Upon dissecting the donut you can actually count those layers – creating such an airy pastry, incredibly moist, and flakey like a perfectly cooked croissant. The passion fruit was bursting with tropical flavor and the chocolate surprised me with its filling! Additional offerings include regular donuts, vegan, and even paleo donuts which are free of grains, gluten, dairy, and sugars.
Health nuts rejoice!
