Housed in a 1907 trolley repair shop is a hidden gem of an art museum. SculptureCenter [44-19 Purves St, Long Island City, NY 11101] was quiet on a rainy Sunday. There are rotating exhibits of contemporary sculptures on display.
I really enjoyed the work of Sam Anderson downstairs, which will be showing through the end of July. The space itself was a bit spooky, ghastly quiet, a bit dark, and filled with little clay people.
Some garbed.
Some in chairs.
Some holding books.
One little person was not clay, and had an obsession with the bird slideshow – quite like myself.
This is a great space with some fantastic art, make sure to check online which exhibits are running before visiting!
