This winter I had the opportunity to visit Peru. Before I experienced the country, I had a few images in my head. Of course Machu Picchu, a wonder of the ancient world, was at the top of the list. Then there were Incas, textiles, llamas, the Andes Mountains, and ceviche. I didn’t know much more, but I was so excited to learn. This was my first trip to South America and it opened my eyes to a whole new world filled with natural beauty and unique cultures, just waiting for me to explore. Over the next few weeks I will go over the highlights of my trip, but first – here are a few of my favorite pictures and takeaways.
+You will most likely fly into Lima and it is worth visiting. Don’t miss Barranco.
+Huaraz is a magical mountain town, if you are a hiker you will love it. Take the night bus.
+The colonial city of Arequipa is full of adventure and the jump off city to explore one of the worlds deepest canyons.
+Machu Picchu is as amazing as you imagine, but there is so much more. Explore the cultural center of Cusco and the rugged Sacred Valley – there is a reason the Incas valued this breathtaking land.
