You know that life is good when your hardest decision of the day is which ice cream flavor to choose. You know life is truly grand when you don’t have to choose at all! Salt & Straw [3345 SE Division St, Portland, OR 97202 additional locations around the city] offers flights of their incredible ice cream, perfect for the indecisive person.
The first thing you will notice is the smell of the freshly baking waffle cones, eating one of those alone would be a treat enough!
They have a classic flavor menu and a limited edition seasonal menu to choose from. I had to try a taste of the honey lavender, made of Oregon grown lavender and local honey from urban hives. Creamy subtly sweet floral goodness with the most beautiful coloration!
For my flight I ended up choosing one of the classic flavors at the recommendation of the knowledgeable server, the sea salt with caramel ribbons was seriously out of this world intense. The best of the salted caramel genre I have ever encountered, it’s a must get! I was tempted by the olive oil and pear with blue cheese, but those will have to wait for a return visit. My other three options ended up being seasonal flavors (in October) – the great candycopia was exquisite comprised of homemade snickers, whoppers, heath bars, and peanut butter cups. To round out our flight were two bold fruity flavors love portion sorbet (which had pop rocks!) and jack o lantern pumpkin sherbet.
This was more than enough to satisfy in the sweets department for two. Who says its too cold for ice cream? This winter’s seasonal flavors include gingerbread cookie dough and fennel five spiced eggnog. Other than Portland, you can find stores in LA and coming soon to SF! Hop in line and treat yourself to some top notch ice cream!
I love it when ice cream shops use local, fresh ingredients! When I finally make it out to Oregon, I will have to stop by.
