I found a strip mall superstar! Chez Mike [596 Columbia Turnpike, East Greenbush, NY 12061] may be in the middle of a suburban Hannaford Plaza, but no one was cooking at home this night – the place was packed!
Without reservations, we were lucky to grab the last bar table. Service was excellent and in no time we were noshing on bread waiting for our order. The butter paired with the warm and yummy bread had chopped kalamata olives in it!
Food is cooked from scratch. That simple extra touch was telling of what was to come from a C.I.A. trained chef. We ordered the fish special, a halibut, and a trout from the menu to split. Both dishes were cooked to perfection, served with fresh veggies and great sauces.
On this night, there was no sharing dessert. Jeff got a brownie alamode sundae with a homemade marshmallow, absolutely gorgeous.
I got a hot peach cobbler which may not have looked quite so pretty, but my goodness did it taste exquisite. It’s safe to say we were completely in dessert heaven, all sugared up and ready to head out the door. But when the check came, there were two little rice crispy squares we couldn’t quite say no to.
You can never have too much dessert! I totally get why everyone was packed in to this fantastic restaurant. Great thoughtful food, friendly service, oh yes, were quite at home hanging out at Mike’s.
