People were lingering around the block and near the entrance. Uh-oh. I didn’t make and reservations, it’s going to be a good long wait.It seems as though Pastabilities [311 S Franklin St, Syracuse, NY 13202] is one of the hottest joints in town. Luck was on our sides when we snagged two of the last bar seats, where you can still order from the full menu. Open for over 30 years, there has been plenty of time to create something remarkable such as their spicy hot tomato sauce which we were most eager to try. We started with their complimentary bread (made fresh across the street) and the aforementioned sauce. The red sauce is excellent, a perfect consistency for dipping and great level of heat – whether you are into spicy food or not, you can certainly handle it. We ordered a nice salad to pretend we’re being healthy, and it had a great assortment of veggies.
Not completely starving, we split a pasta dish for dinner. Of course we went for one of their homemade pastas, a pappardelle, coated in the spicy hot tomato oil and topped with locatelli cheese. Yes, I get why this place is so bustling. The fresh pasta dish was delicious and comforting. Paired with a glass of red wine and a trendy atmosphere, we had a great date night while visiting Syracuse.
