Once in a while I find a special brewery that steals my heart. I’ll admit I’m not a big craft beer drinker, but my partner in crime is and I love supporting local businesses. On Fourth of July we were out riding around the most beautiful American country roads in Washington County. Crossing a picturesque bridge draped with the stars and stripes, the day felt meant to be.
The R. S. Taylor & Sons Brewery [3602 County Rte 30, Salem, NY 12865] was inviting, young and old – near and far, all here for the beer and stunning scenery.
Sit outside under an umbrella or in the taproom where every detail was clean, crisp, and classy.
Looking to taste a flight, we asked owner Rich which four he would recommend first. He suggested simply start left to right.
So he whipped up some glasses for us and we commenced with our own tasting tradition. I take a first sip and put the glass down while making a face. Jeff finishes the glass gladly. However, these beers were different. I found myself picking them up to sip more than once, sans grimace. They weren’t bitter or too bold. Flavors were smooth and true to their names. I genuinely enjoyed the beer, something I don’t find myself doing very often at all. The beer and atmosphere were so enjoyable we had to sample the second four. The brewery offers some food options and also has live music on Sundays. Oh, and there are bunnies.
Be sure to look out at the Schenectady Greenmarket and Troy Farmer’s Market, where you can also grab their fantastic beer.
