Once a space for children to learn their ABC’s on weekdays, now a place for art lovers to converge on Saturdays, 11am-5pm. Contemporary art has found a home in Columbia County at The School [25 Broad St, Kinderhook, NY 12106].
The classic brick schoolhouse has been converted into an exciting art gallery, but you can still see some traces of its former life within the exhibits.
Exhibits are ever changing, during my visit Winter in America was on display.
The art reflected a nation struggling against violence, intolerance, and war – created by artists from all over the world.
Multimodal forms of art keep viewing interesting. You’ll see art forms ranging from sculptures, paintings, needlepoint, artifacts, and photographs.
Walking through the halls and into what I guessed was the old gym, I was excited to see an interactive piece. Most often at an art museum you can only look, not touch. I was happy to use a hammer on this exhibit, smashing a coin into a log to make my wishes come true.
This is an excellent addition to the town of Kinderhook, a truly unique and fun experience. The School is a gallery at the top of its class!
