They don’t call New York the big apple for nothing. We have a righteous apple crop, and it’s a sin to miss out on New York apples in autumn. Most upstate New Yorkers have their favorite orchards just like ordinary folk have a favorite grocery store. My favorite for apple season is Golden Harvest Farms [3074 U.S. 9, Valatie, NY 12184] in charming Columbia County. They’ve got it going on, and we’ve been taking the hayrides for years. A great variety of apples, even some pumpkins, a farm stand with outstanding cider donuts+cider+baked goods, and a little distillery are the ingredients to a fabulous Fall day.
