Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and when that day is jam-packed with a travel itinerary it is important to be well fed from the get go. Since we were based out of Nørrebro we spent a good deal of time on Jægersborggade Street, a short block lined with restaurants and shops. Our two favorite breakfast joints both happened to be here, the first was Grød [Jægersborggade 50 2200 Copenhagen Denmark Nørrebro]. Grød only does two things, and when you focus on just two things, your outcome is more likely to be successful. In the morning there is porridge, at night there is risotto. We came in early and scored one of the few tables which were all completely filled by the time our meal appeared, so don’t be late unless you want to wait! I eat oatmeal very often at home, and man, I wish I could make it like this. I ordered the spelt porridge cooked in soymilk which had rhubarb compote, skyr – Icelandic yogurt, and toasted almonds. I added freeze dried berries, fresh berries, and chocolate drops to the mix.
My bestie got hers with strawberries, apples, hazelnuts, and freeze dried berries.
These hearty oats kept us going for hours, and the coffee was superb.
The other fantastic breakfast we got happened by chance, ROD [Jægersborggade 17 2200 København N Denmark Nørrebro], an organic café and juice bar offered us a seriously balanced meal.
Breakfast included creamy tart yogurt with muesli, a perfectly soft boiled egg, a hunk of delectable bread with a smear of butter, a bit of blood orange, grapes, apples, cucumber, red pepper, cheese, and some meat. Wow. Everything was fresh and exactly what you didn’t even know you needed for breakfast. Oh and their coffee doesn’t mess around either, it kicks you right in the face.
After that we were ready to conquer the day, these guys are the champions of breakfast!
