What does the Grateful Dead, Anthony Bourdain, and a killer fish taco have in common? A trip to Mexicali Blue in New Paltz [87 Main Street New Paltz] of course! I thoroughly enjoyed my visit here, but be warned, this place is tiiiiny.
We had just finished a hot hike and there were initially no seats available to eat inside or outside, so we planned on taking this to go. As we waited for our order two seats opened up at the counter so we plopped down and decided to stay. It was hot by the grill, but it was good to see the action. As they say, ‘fresh fast food, no freezers, no fryers, no cans,’ it was a show to watch the guys cook up these tacos and burritos, indeed fresh and fast.
I got a catfish taco on a beautiful blue corn tortilla loaded with fresh greens and topped with tangy sauce.
I portioned the delicious grilled meat and fresh greens and created two tacos, which was perfectly filling for me along with a bit of super awesome creamy southwestern potato salad. Jeff got a big ole chicken burrito which was super good.
It was loaded with meat, beans, rice, and guac – totally stuffed!
There are lots of homemade hot sauce options in unique flavors for you to choose from.
Definitely come and eat fresh delicious grub here, but be warned you may have to take this tasty food to go!
