Changing up your grocery shopping routine is a way to keep things fun and interesting. In the past few years the Capital Region has sprouted many new options like Shop Rite, Trader Joes, Whole Foods, and Fresh Market to spice things up. Sometimes for a small shopping I pick up my groceries at a farmers market, or Cardona’s. My most recent discovery was Fred the Butcher in Clifton Park [1473 U.S. 9, Clifton Park, NY 12065], a fantastic middle sized market with just about anything you might need, and a lot of things you didn’t know you even wanted!
There is a great assortment of cheese and fresh produce and as you might have guessed, Fred the Butcher has a lot of fresh meat. They also have their own line of different products such as sauce, coffee, and many miscellaneous items. You can find a number of local products from all over the Capital Region and beyond here, a few of my favorite finds included: lemon cookies from Villa Italia, Utica Coffee, Adirondack Barkeater Chocolate, and Fred the Butcher’s own black bean dip – pure local goodness. I also saw some of my favorites such as Cookie Factory cookies, Gatherers granola, and local bread.
There is also a deli in-store which has pre-made dinners and prepares sandwiches. I had a great time finding new tasty treats and stocking up my pantry at this shop, just 20 minutes away from Albany.
I would love to. After sampling that dark chocolate sea salt visiting is definitely on my list of things to do!
We are so happy you found Barkeater Chocolates at Fred the Butcher, Julie! Come see us on your next journey to North Creek or Gore Mountain!
