What a special gem! Little Café Poca Cosa is nestled right on a main road in Tucson [151 N Stone Ave Tucson, Arizona, metered street parking available], yet the restaurant it feels as though it is a world of its own. We chose to sit outside on the small patio and an attentive waitress made sure to tell us the specials and provide us with water, good thing too because we were parched from our hike. We quickly received oh so tasty complimentary salsa and chips with our amazing drinks, a basil lemonade and an iced coffee-chata, which was a mix of iced coffee and horchata with Mexican vanilla. Zing. Yum. The half & half plate allows you to pick any two items off the menu for only $12, a real score. The surprise plate looked interesting as well, where the girls in the kitchen pick any three items off the menu…next time! My mother and I both chose the veggie corn tamale which was corn meal, sweet corn, mild green chilies, and cheese – to live for. One of the most fantastic food items I have ever eaten! So soft and fluffy exuding fresh corn flavor. Our second entre item was the pollo ranchero, delicious shredded chicken with sautéed tomatoes, potatoes, mild green Anaheim chilies, onions, garlic, and fresh cilantro. Wow. All meals are served with a gorgeous salad, fruit, rice, pinto beans, and tortillas. We stuffed the tortillas with the chicken, rice, beans, and salad. Everything here is fresh, healthy, and presented in an exquisite and colorful manner. Boy this was filling! The hours are limited, they are open Monday through Friday 8-2, but you must make time to visit this extraordinary local and affordable treasure if visiting Tucson. Cash only!
