Soup is such a comfort food and on a frigid day I was lucky enough to have a bowl at Roc N Ramen. The new restaurant is located in Westchester’s New Rochelle, right across from New Roc City, perfect for a meal before or after a movie, or any time at all (19 Anderson St New Rochelle, NY 10801). You can park in the New Roc garage or on the metered street, definitely no shortage of parking around here. The space inside is relatively small; there are a few window and bar stools, and a couple of big tables. Even at an off-hour the dimly lit joint was packed with people from all walks of life. My Mom and I sat at the bar and watched the chefs at work while waiting for our meals. Ramen has become a trendy dish to eat and it is the farthest thing from a simple cup-of-soup. I was pleasantly surprised at how delicious the ramen was it seriously hit the spot. There were all sorts of crisp and fresh tasting veggies loaded in, the chicken was amazingly seasoned and succulent, the egg was perfection, and the broth warmed our souls. I couldn’t finish the huge serving and took the rest to go. The service was friendly, efficient, and we enjoyed a chat with one of the owners about how the idea for a Ramen shop came to be. While stationed in Korea he ate a lot of it, and it stuck with him. A recipe was developed and the first Ramen spot in Westchester was opened in a perfect location. If you go, and you should, ring the bell as you are enjoying your meal. Lots of bell ringing during our visit, and we were ringing too because hey, this is seriously rockin ramen ;).
