Top Picks: Diamond Head Cove Health Bar (Acai Bowl, Cheap Eats, Healthy, Breakfast, Honolulu)
A lot of times on vacation to save on cost we eat breakfast in the hotel, however an acai bowl is a must when visiting Oahu! We actually came here twice; I could eat here everyday the food is so fresh, tasty, and healthy! This little joint is tucked into a strip mall right outside of Waikiki and on the way to Diamond Head (perfect for a post-hike snack!). They make such an amazing breakfast treat, an acai bowl dubbed ‘Da Mana Cove Bowl.’ The frozen acai mixture is topped with fresh bananas, strawberries, blueberries, honey, granola, and bee pollen, a perfect concoction! It’s a huge portion and every bite is amazing.
We got a different juice to share on each visit; the first was the Morning Delight which had carrot, celery, lemon, ginger, and watermelon and I was happy to be putting healthy ingredients into my body but it wasn’t something I would get again taste wise (wasn’t bad just wasn’t very memorable); our second juice was the Bee Yourself which had ginger, lemon, honey, and bee pollen which we liked quite a lot.
The service was fast and friendly. Seating is limited, but both times we luckily ended up getting the last available seat. There are two little outside tables as well. I loved the way this place was decorated all the way up to the ceiling, and dug the reggae pumping out of the speakers. The parking was a little difficult, so we found close and easy parking down a side street. You must try an acai bowl when visiting whether you are a healthy eater or not, they are simply divine. Out of the two joints that we sampled them this was definitely the best, but they don’t open till 9am, so plan accordingly if you are an early riser like I am. Practically next door in the same strip mall is Bogart’s which opens at 6am and also serves acai bowls. While I preferred Diamond Head Cove, we did appreciate an early bird acai bowl here once to get our fix!
