You don’t have to be a mountain climber to experience the beauty of the Catskills, you just have to know where to look. There is a flat paved trail along the Ashokan Reservoir in the town of Olivebridge with breathtaking views of the mountains. It’s perfect for biking, rollerblading, running, or simply walking. The 2.5 mile trail has a parking lot on either side, but unless your party is taking two cars if you want to experience the whole trail you’ll be taking a 5 mile hike out and back. Every inch of this trail is awe-inspiring, as beautiful going out and you get a totally different perspective coming back.
The day was partly cloudy with the sun coming in and out, which completely changed the view and the reflections of the sky and mountains on the reservoir in a trippy style.
There is one small section of the trail that makes its way through thick trees, both this and the norm of the path are great for bird watching.
We also saw some deer sauntering across the road.
This is a remarkably beautiful place that allows anyone to experience the wonder of this mountain range.
