Marietta Museum of Art & Whimsy in Sarasota, Florida

I saw a hot pink flamingo on the road and had to pull a quick U-turn.

As a sucker for roadside attractions, how could I possibly pass up the Marietta Museum of Art & Whimsy [2121 N Tamiami Trail, Sarasota, FL 34234]?!

This is truly a magical little wonderland – full of color and life. It starts in the parking lot with monkeys in a barrel,

seahorses,

and giraffes!

You can take as many pictures of the outdoor sculptures as you’d like, but in the gallery it is cell phone photography only. The walls are covered with a rainbow of media ranging from stained glass, neon, paint, sculpture – folksy fun at its finest.

Even the bathrooms are gorgeous. Be sure to check out the expansive patio where more treasures are waiting.

This is a free museum which accepts donations.

I love the line: “I saw a hot pink flamingo on the road and had to pull a quick U-turn.” That’s us.
