About

Hi! My name is Julie. I’m always looking around the bend for something new and exciting. I’m here to tell you about my journeys:

I have a serious case of the travel-bug. My home base is New York — from upstate to the city I love turning over every stone to uncover all of the hidden gems in the state. I often day-trip to nearby towns and cities, and travel to distant lands at any chance I get. I love nature. You can find me hiking up mountains or in meadows throughout all seasons, observing the flora and fauna.

Summit of Mount Marcy, highest point in New York

“Few people know how to take a walk. the qualifications are endurance, plain clothes, old shoes, an eye with nature, good humor, vast curiosity, good speech, good silence, and nothing else.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

Rainbow Mountain, Peru

I love to eat fresh, local, healthy food. I also love decadent dessert. I love trying different ethnic and regional cuisines. I just love learning about culture through food!

“A human being is primarily a bag for putting food into.” – George Orwell

Glaze Donuts, New Jersey

I am attracted to quirky roadside attractions, abandoned places, and generally anything off the beaten path.

Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park, Thailand

I would like to share with you my adventures, in hopes that you too will venture out and find new and interesting things to share with others.

“Respond to every call that excites your spirit.” – Rumi

North Seymour Island, The Galapagos

Thank you so much for the tips! I will look in to them for the next time I visit Montgomery.

  2. Hi Julie, your blogs about Montgomery and Birmingham are lovely!
I would like to encourage you to visit some of the really moving civil rights memorials in Montgomery including the new Legacy Museum which was once the site of a jail for slaves waiting to be sold at auction prior to the Civil War. Every American needs to visit that museum.
Dr. King’s church and parsonage in Montgomery are also well worth the visit – truly inspirational.

Thank you so much! It always feels like there is never enough time to explore – but even a day or two is better than none 😸

You have an amazing blog, Julie! It makes me tired just reading the list of all the places you’ve explored! lol I have been to many of the same places, but we seldom stop for more than a night or too, so you are seeing so much more than I do.

Thanks so much for stopping by and your kind words!

Hi Julie! I love your spirit of being an adventurer and experiencing new things. Your blog is the best travel journal I have seen. It’s full of color, off the beaten path, and making me want to go to these places. Thank you for sharing!! You could be a writer for Condé Nast!

Your blog is great and I’m glad to have you interested as well. It looks as though you were able to follow me on my end, but I’ll look into that. Thanks for letting me know!

  12. Hi, Julie – I found your blog because I was notified that you are following mine – and having found it, I also found that your “follow” button doesn’t seem to work! I’m going to try checking the two buttons below, and hope that they really do notify me of new posts – I rarely encounter someone who travels more than I do, and I’m especially interested in the range of places you find. Travel well – Beth
