Soco Falls, North Carolina

This roadside waterfall feels like a hidden gem, while the path is short it a total adventure to get there. Soco Falls [US-19, Maggie Valley, NC 28751] comes up quick after the small sign, the road has a high speed limit and the pull off is small – be cautious! Shimmy around the guard rail and follow the well worn path down to the falls.

You can view it from a platform just by walking a few minutes, but if you can – get a closer look!

This part of the trail is slippery and wet due to the wind and falls. Ropes are in place, you’ll need them for added security. Be prepared for your hands to get good and dirty.

The view from down at the base of this 120’ double waterfall is epic.

What a reward for such little effort.

The hike is located close to the towns of Cherokee and Maggie Valley, but it also makes a great pitstop coming from Asheville heading to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

Oh no! Google maps does have it as a point which is very helpful – also if you come at a time to notice other cars are in the little lot. I hope you find it next time, worth the hunt.
