Exploring downtown Sarasota, Florida

Even after a day a the beach, it’s nice to linger by the water. Sarasota’s Bayfront Park [2 Marina Plz Sarasota, FL 34236] is a great place to take a stroll or have a picnic.

There is a big free parking lot, but it can get quite busy. Once you take to the walkway enjoy the fountains, sculptures, and views.

You’ll find a place to rent kayaks and a little tiki bar. Have you seen the iconic photograph of a kiss between a sailor and a nurse at the end of World War II on V-J Day? There is a larger than life statue close by on the waterfront called Unconditional Surrender.

On the day we visited across the street there was a small farmers market. It had some artisanal crafts, produce, but what we loved the most was the smell coming from a spice vendor. He was frying up onions scooping up a sauce with his spice in it on a chip – he lured us right in and we’ve been cooking with it ever since remember our lovely time in Sarasota.

This is also a great spot to walk to downtown from.

See how many colorful bikes you can spot.

Pop in a shop or a restaurant, there are plenty to choose from.
