Donuts in St. Petersburg, Florida

Funky Sweets, 11024 4th St N, St. Petersburg, FL 33716

Two words: Donut Sundae. If you’re craving dessert in the Burg, head up to this bodacious spot where the service is as sweet as the food.

Mini donuts are made fresh when you walk in, there are often samples of them as well. To top your fresh donuts, pick a flavor of Working Cow ice cream – a local Florida brand which is delicious.

The hot donuts and slowly melting ice cream is an immaculate combination not to be missed!

Fray’s Donuts, 649 34th St N St. Petersburg, FL 33713

Out of the dozens of donuts we ate in Florida, Jeff had his favorite in here. This is a traditional shop, regulars reading the newspaper and stopping in for coffee (sign says they have the worlds best!) and a donut on their lunch break. It may be the only time you can get in during the week because they close at 2PM daily. There is a good variety, but nothing too absurd. I wish I could have tried honey dew, but they were all out. Some cute names such as head lights and tail lights.

We went for honey dipped chocolate, toasted coconut, both super tasty – but the one that stole the show was the sour cream with its perfect crisp texture, soft cake inside – and crackling glaze exterior.

There is a parking lot and a drive through if you’re on the go.

Better Byrd, 4447 4th St N #1, St. Petersburg, FL 33703

This is a restaurant where you can get great chicken sandwiches, but one night – we came just for the donuts! You can pick from a selection of funky flavors and they are topped fresh to order. Some come with powdered flavoring such as horchata and Mexican chocolate, while others have a more physical appearance like the snickers, lucky charms, blueberry lemon, and salted caramel.

All of them were really tasty and fresh, would love to have tried more flavors.

Bonus, non-donut dessert: The Sugar Shack, 177 Dr M.L.K. Jr St N, St. Petersburg, FL 33701

Featuring sweets from local Florida businesses, the shack is great for people who want to try a variety of things. There is Working Cow homemade ice cream, Kermit’s Key West key lime pie, Le’Ann’s cheesecake, and frozen chocolate dipped key lime pie on a stick!

You will also find a variety of souvenirs to bring home. This spot is just around the corner from the downtown area.
