The town of Beacon is great for a stroll. It has a vibrant and diverse Main Street filled with interesting sights, restaurants, galleries, shops, and all kinds of art – there is certainly something for everyone here. I loved the random murals and sculptures scattered about.
Especially the notable head of my favorite president, George Washington, who probably also loved strolling around Beacon.
I’ll be honest. Sometimes I feel a little funny walking into a gallery when I know I have no intention of buying anything. I got over my stipulation, because there was something funky calling to me about Marion Royael Gallery [159 Main St, Beacon, NY 12508]. Trust me, everyone in here is very relaxed and they are happy for you to wander in and check out the work. In the front there are paintings hanging on the walls, some obstructions out on the floor. What you really want to check out is the back garden, which is filled with funk.
Another great gallery and shop with a totally different feel is Hudson Beach Glass [162 Main St, Beacon, NY 12508]. Downstairs is a shop where you will find beautiful glass blown art.
Upstairs you can find a showroom which extends beyond glass.
Demonstrations and classes are also available. You can have plenty of fun window shopping around town.
You can actually shop too, because there is a plethora of cute little shops. One of my favorites was Dream In Plastic [177 Main St, Beacon, NY 12508] which had all sorts of silliness and some pretty neat art work.
+Play Toys and Gifts [167 Main St, Beacon, NY 12508] for all of your knick knacks and gifts for anyone on your list
+Mountain Tops Outdoors [144 Main St, Beacon, NY 12508] has great quality athletic gear
+Beacon Natural Market [348 Main St, Beacon, NY 12508] if you want to grab any healthy or regional snacks
Round the corner from Main Street and the scene becomes a bit more industrial looking. There are more shops here, some interesting street art,
and most importantly – a gorgeous waterfall.
We stayed until sunset, which was lovely because the town center sits up high on a hill.
So much to see and do in Beacon, one of the most interesting towns in the Hudson Valley to take a daytrip to!
