Chuang Yen Monastery

The anthropology minor in me has always been fascinated with other cultures. When I heard that the largest indoor statue of Buddha in the Western Hemisphere was just a day trip away, I was in. The grounds of the Chuang Yen Monastery [2020 NY-301, Carmel, NY 10512] are mystical. As you walk towards the temple take the Bodhi Path.

Chuang_Yen_Monastery_7The temple has to be one of the prettiest places of worship, there were hundreds of tiny Buddha’s circling the one.

Chuang_Yen_Monastery_6Take a look inside the little gift shop and consider purchasing a little trinket to support the monastery. Take the lovely little path with bright red bridges and gazebos around the lake.
