Standing on the deck watching the port fade into the distance…
The cool ocean breeze melts away any worries you could possibly have as you get underway. Visiting an island totally changes your state of mind. You find yourself taking things slow. Smiling easy. We were heading to the island of Brac for a day of relaxation. An hour from Split by ferry, and quite a beautiful ride the Jardolina is the major ferry company out of Split and the boats run frequently over the summer season. You will find yourself docking in the town of Supetar after a scenic voyage.
We shopped around the touristy stalls of the busy port and had some delicious gelato in town. Our major destination was on the side of the island, however, so to the road we went. A bus ride through the rural sections of the island, passing marble quarries and ancient looking stone domiciles, and you will find yourself in a totally different world.
Bol was such a welcomed retreat after the weeks of traveling in bustling cities. A peaceful and quiet town which boasts one of the worlds loveliest beaches, Zlatni Rat which translates to Golden Horn.
This horn shaped stretch of pebbly shore is perfect for a day lounging and swimming. Rent a beach chair and grab a fresh fruit juice or a snack from one of the vendors just a few steps away. Before long you will be diving into that divinely crystal clear water.
Amuse yourself! Life couldn’t be better. From the beach there is a promenade which takes you directly into town. It is lined with a few vendors and gorgeous views of the coast. Be dazzled by those colors, stop to watch the wind surfers, savor every moment of this island.
Try any restaurant for some fresh fish, we loved Topolino. If you plan your day right catch the sunset ferry home it does not disappoint.
