Schenectady Eats: Memphis King

Oh yes, this place is the real deal. You want barbeque? Memphis King is the place to get it in the Capital Region. Located in Schenectady in a quieter part of the city, street parking is easily found [1902 Van Vranken Ave Schenectady, NY 12308], you will smell what’s cooking before you even get inside.

You’re not coming here for ambiance, there isn’t a whole lot of seating, but none of that matters. Service is really friendly; while you’re deciding what you want there may be a sample piece of jalapeño cornbread to whet your appetite. I got the bbq chicken which was so tender and smoky, with beans, and cornbread.

Everything was perfect, I could have licked the plate. Jeff got the pulled pork, kettle fries, and cornbread.

He loved it. I sampled his kettle fries and they were beyond amazing! I never heard of this sort of fry before: a real fry, fried on the outside soft on the inside, shaped like a potato chip with the perfect thickness. Simple amazing – a must try. All meats should be slathered in any of the seriously awesome sauces.

I can’t wait to return to try out some of their different sides and get more of that chicken!
