Lunch in East Greenbush: The Cottage Café

I feel like I stumbled upon some enchanted grandma’s cottage, there is certainly some down home deliciousness to be had at this café (705 Columbia Tpke East Greenbush, NY 12061). To get to the restaurant you have to walk through the Country Trunk store filled with assorted jewelry, clothes, and knick-knacks. IMG_3122Once you walk through the little open fence divider, you can’t help but fall in love with the wonderfully sweet waitress and the homey décor which looks like the outside of a cottage. IMG_3116Just after opening one of the tables was already taken, and as we finished our meal the joint was filling up with people of all ages. I guess a lot of people are in on this not so little secret. The food matches the atmosphere perfectly. Simple but delicious soups and sandwiches. The soup and half sandwich is a perfectly sized meal, accompanied by a pasta salad, pickles and veggie chips. I got a veggie and rice soup which was hearty and healthy tasting. IMG_3119Jeff got the seafood chowder with lobster and crab which was decadent and delicious. IMG_3117We were both so happy with our soups, and different ones are made daily. Jeff got a full chicken salad sandwich and was overwhelmed with the amount of food, but he loved it. IMG_3120I got a simple turkey sandwich with lettuce, tomato, and homemade garlic mayo on toasted 12-grain wheat. Serious yum. IMG_3121The pasta salad was really unique and tasty sprinkled with fun veggies and dressing. There was also an array of drinks and desserts to try out next time! This place was very affordably priced, and everything was clearly made with love. If you are looking for a healthy, homey, hearty lunch, come visit, but make sure to check the hours: tues-sat 11-3.
