Rainbow Drive-In (Cheap Eats, Lunch/Dinner, Honolulu)
A quick, cheap, casual dinner turned out to be pretty tasty at this drive-in. The loco-moco is a keystone in Hawaiian cuisine. It’s not exactly my type of dish, so I was happy when Jeff decided to try it out. It consists of a burger, fried egg, and gravy over white rice. He plowed it down. I got a mahi mahi sandwich (less than $5), a delicate fried little thing with some lettuce that went down the hatch fast. The food was comforting and served up quick after a short wait on line. Parking is easy here and there is a great retro sign lighting up the night. Connected to the restaurant is a real little gift shop with some eclectic items. My Mom loves this violet gum and I saw the brand carried a guava version as well, so I picked up a pack for her to test out. Score! Definitely a real affordable and yummy quick spot to get dinner or lunch right in the city.
