Route 20

Ever just want to get in your car and cruise? Let’s just say you have an electric car for my mental sake, we’re not intentionally trying to destroy the environment here.

A beautiful sunny day, maybe a bit cold, you don’t want to be directly outside…you’re bored, you want to get out, get rid of that cabin fever. Okay, I’ve got something for you.

Drive scenic Route 20. There’s a lot to do along the way!

Some ideas:

The TePee – the quintessential classic roadside attraction. It’s a giant TePee seemingly in the middle of nowhere, with a fantastic view. Inside is a store with lots of interesting locally made things to purchase, and outside there is a snack shack called the Chow Wagon. You can get Belkalo, which is Buffalo and Elk Chili or Ommegang Beer Chili, among other things.

American Hotel – Do you trust Rachael Ray from the food channel? I’m glad I did. She ate here and seemed to like it, so I decided to give it a try as well. (Watch on Rachael Ray’s $40 a day http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YSsKUak3HkQ)

We went for brunch, and I had their corncakes, a delicious meal in a beautiful and historic setting.

Howe Caverns – Depending on when you go, it might be warmer in the caves than it is outside! The caves stay 52 degrees all year round. They were discovered by a farmer noticing in summer that his cows liked to hang by an opening of the caves where cool air blew out.

These are just a few ideas, there is so much to do and see on rt-20, don’t be afraid to veer off if you see something that piques your interest, get in your car and hit the road!
